The collaboration will deliver a location tracking system (LTS) built around Systematic’s SitaWare suite, providing commanders with near real-time visibility of the location and status of friendly forces across the battlespace.
Under the arrangement, Systematic’s SitaWare Frontline will be used to send and receive location data and messages through the SitaWare Tactical Communication backbone.
That information will then be relayed via Space42’s satellite constellation, using Comtech’s communications hardware, to operations centres running SitaWare Headquarters.
The result is a resilient, beyond-line-of-sight tracking capability designed to give commanders a clear and continuous picture of force disposition.
The LTS is intended for use by both mounted and dismounted troops and can be fitted to a wide range of platforms, including land vehicles, ships and aircraft. In addition to providing a reliable common operating picture, the system can act as an additional layer within a PACE (primary, alternate, contingency, emergency) communications framework.
Systematic vice president for Middle East business development Andrew Atkinson said the integration of space-based communications into digital command-and-control systems was becoming increasingly important.
“Bringing together Space42’s strength in space-based communications with Systematic’s operationally proven SitaWare suite will be a significant force enabler for any military,” Atkinson said.
“As friendly force tracking becomes more critical in complex and contested environments, traditional communications need to be supplemented at all levels. Designing space-based communications into a digitalised battlespace delivers greater resilience, reliability and transparency,” Atkinson said.
Space42 senior vice president for government solutions Ahmed Almehrzi said the partnership aligned with the company’s focus on secure connectivity and operationally relevant solutions.
“Our partnership with Systematic and Comtech delivers a location tracking solution that sets a new benchmark in the market,” Almehrzi said.
Almehrzi added, “With integrated push-to-talk and SOS functions, it significantly enhances combat search and rescue operations, enabling faster response times and improved mission safety. By combining advanced satellite communications with cutting-edge tracking and command systems, we are enabling faster decision making, stronger institutional resilience and superior situational awareness.”
SitaWare Frontline is a mounted battle management system designed for use in vehicles, ships and aircraft of all sizes. It enables commanders to exchange data, conduct map-based planning and intelligence tasks and use 3D visualisation tools.
SitaWare Edge provides a mobile capability for dismounted commanders, delivering enhanced situational awareness through the tracking of friendly and hostile forces, as well as access to feeds from unmanned systems and other intelligence sources.
Recent updates to both SitaWare Frontline and SitaWare Edge have expanded battlefield management functions, including improved task creation and delegation to subordinate units. Systematic said these enhancements are designed to better support mission execution in line with a commander’s intent and overall operational objectives.
Systematic delivers command and control, military messaging and electronic warfare software to more than 50 customers worldwide, providing C4ISR (command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance) capabilities across land, sea, air, space and cyber domains.
Space42 was formed in 2024 through the merger of Bayanat and Yahsat and integrates satellite communications, geospatial analytics and artificial intelligence.
The company operates globally and is structured around two business units: space services, focused on satellite operations for fixed and mobile services, and smart solutions, which applies data and AI capabilities to government and enterprise needs.
