As the new chair of SIAA, Drury brings significant experience to the role, gained from a career spanning 35 years in both the local and global aerospace sector, including 20 years in the Royal Australian Air Force and over 15 years in various governance and leadership roles with multi-national aerospace companies.
Drury's appointment to the SIAA comes as part of the announcement of 2019 office holders. Drury is joined by deputy chair/treasurer David Ball, deputy chair Dr Alice Gorman and secretary Peter Nikoloff.
Drury told Space Connect, "It is an honour to be elected to lead the board and the association. I foresee that the board will want to continue with the same trajectory established by the previous board and we will continue to build on their good work."

The new SIAA board acknowledged the significant achievements of the previous board and key supporters under the leadership of Michael Davis, including the successful International Astronautical Congress in 2017, the SIAA white paper Advancing Australia in Space, and the launch of a funding scheme to support worthwhile Australian industry projects.
SIAA is a nationwide organisation formed to promote the growth of the Australian space sector. By formulating national policies and strategies, SIAA speaks with authority and credibility on behalf of its members on issues connected with the development of the Australian space industry.
The Australian space industry consists of individuals and organisations involved in the provision and use of space related technologies or services. These technologies and services include:
- Telecommunications;
- Remote sensing;
- Global positioning, environmental monitoring and meteorology;
- Satellite development and satellite components and sub-systems;
- Ground systems and operating stations for space technology;
- Space science and space education; and
- Professional services to support the above (legal, financial, insurance etc).
"As an organisation, we are looking forward to working closely with our members and the new Australian Space Agency to further the growth and development of the Australian space industry at a critical time both locally and globally," Drury added.
