Space Connect is pleased to announce that the Australian Space Agency and Space Industry Association of Australia (SIAA) have joined the awards program as supporting partners.
Dr Megan Clark AC, head, Australian Space Agency, welcomed the collaboration.

“The awards will recognise outstanding efforts to develop national capability, which in turn contributes to the agency’s goal of tripling the size of Australia’s space economy to $12 billion, creating another 20,000 jobs by 2030.”
David Ball, chair of the Space Industry Association of Australia (SIAA), echoed Dr Clark’s comments in also affirming the association’s support of the awards initiative.
“The SIAA is extremely pleased to be associated with the inaugural Australian Space Awards, and we expect that these awards will be tightly contested,” Ball said.
The inaugural awards program will recognise professionals and organisations across 20+ categories, focusing on all facets of the growing space industry.

“Over the last 12 months we have seen incredible energy and excitement across the space industry,” Ball added.
“Many SIAA members have made tremendous progress with their initiatives and projects during this time. If you know someone worthy of an award, we strongly encourage you to nominate, as they close in the very near future.”
Nominations are open across eight individual awards and 14 company awards. To enter these awards, nominate a person, a business or yourself in the category most suited.
“It’s a great endorsement of the awards program to have both the Australian Space Agency and the SIAA’s support,” said William Magee, Momentum Media’s head of strategy – defence and space.
“The Australian Space Awards are a first for the nation, and a step forward in acknowledging the work, energy and efforts of our emerging space industry – and its extremely talented professionals who are regarded globally as leaders in their fields.

Submissions must be completed online, but can be worked on offline. A typical submission takes two-three hours to complete, Magee said.
Categories for the awards recognise major contractors and businesses, SMEs, research and academic institutions plus associations, through to high-performing individuals such as executives, Indigenous and female leaders, students, scientists, technicians and academics.
The awards are open to all businesses operating in Australia supporting the space industry, including telecommunications, satellite, energy, mining and transport sectors as well as the defence, agriculture, disaster and water management industries.
“The awards program acknowledges the range of space-orientated businesses in Australia, from manufacturers to service providers. This reflects the expanding definition of space and the space industry in Australia – which now touches every Australian, whether it is phone, data or GPS through to the great work undertaken by our emergency services as well as the food, water, logistics, energy, mining, and disaster management and relief sectors,” Magee said.
