The conference is timed to coincide with the annual Southern Hemisphere Space Studies Program conducted jointly by ISU and the University of South Australia since 2011.
With the theme of 'Small Satellite Technologies and Earth Observation Applications: Solutions and Possibilities', the conference will bring together leading domestic and international actors in small satellite technologies, including speakers from the Australian Space Agency, NASA, SmartSat Cooperative Research Centre and CSIRO to discuss Australia's unique, emerging space capabilities.
The role of satellite technology in improving life for billions of people on Earth is increasingly visible across fields and industries including agriculture, defence, weather forecasting, mining and ocean monitoring.
Nowhere has this been more evident than in Australia this summer where satellites have played an important role in assisting the response of emergency services to catastrophic bushfires across the country’s south and south-east, as well as monitoring the fire damage. Discussion of the role of satellites in bushfire emergencies will be part of the conference agenda.
