The maiden Defence & National Security Workforce Awards 2024 launched this year with support from principal partner Attura to celebrate the trailblazing initiatives by young professionals under 35 years of age who have energised the industry with innovative workforce programs.
The black-tie event will showcase the depth of talent in the defence and national security sectors, as well as the workforce initiatives that are transforming the way security professionals operate as Australia prepares to embark on a period of rapid technological transformation.
A total of 79 finalists have been chosen to compete across 16 individual and group categories this year.

Representatives from Boeing Defence Australia, engineering services provider Babcock Australia and New Zealand, AeroPM, DroneShield, and Downer Defence have been named as some of the individual finalists.
Companies like Thales, Accenture Australia, not-for-profit organisation for veterans Soldier On, Hypersonix Launch Systems, and educational technology company STEM Hub are among the group finalists competing at the inaugural awards.
Individual finalists are contesting for awards like Best Maritime Technical Specialist Under 35, Best Aerospace Technical Specialist Under 35, and Best Female Technical Specialist under 35.
Group categories include Best Reservist/Volunteer Support Program, Best Veteran Support Program, and Best Future Skills Provider.
The Defence & National Security Workforce Awards shine a spotlight on the rising stars of the industry as well as businesses with innovative workforce programs, and showcase why they are the industry’s employer of choice.
The awards were open to all businesses operating in the industry’s supply chain and recognises initiatives spanning the entire industry, including technical operations, project managers, communications specialists under 35, leading reserve support and training and development programs.
The winners will be determined by a panel of well-respected judges that comprises former senior Australian Defence Force (ADF) leaders, academics, business executives, entrepreneurs, and innovators. Click here to view the methodology.
The awards offer peer-reviewed recognition of the capabilities of businesses and professionals who have been providing solutions to upskill and strengthen the Australian defence and national security workforce.
Winners will be announced at the Defence & National Security Workforce Awards 2024 on Wednesday, 12 June 2024 at the Four Seasons in Sydney.
The awards are being held jointly by Space Connect and its sister brands Defence Connect, Australian Aviation, and Cyber Daily.
