Chief Defence Scientist to speak at Sydney summit

Australia’s Chief Defence Scientist, Professor Tanya Monro AC, will speak at the Defence Industry Development Strategy Summit in Sydney on 6 August.

Monro will deliver an address detailing the pivotal role of science, technology, and innovation in delivering Australia’s next-generation defence capabilities.

Space Connect’s sister brand, Defence Connect, is hosting the event, which will also include Defence Industry Minister Pat Conroy.

“Following last year’s DSR and the more recent IIP, NDS and DIDS, there’s no doubt that the defence sector is undergoing a substantial period of change,” said Defence Connect’s editor, Liam Garman.

The summit will focus on breaking down each of the Sovereign Defence Industrial Priorities (SDIP) outlined in the Defence Industry Development Strategy (DIDS), which includes:

  • Maintenance, repair, overhaul, and upgrade of Australian Defence Force aircraft.
  • Continuous naval shipbuilding and sustainment.
  • Sustainment and enhancement of the combined-arms land system.
  • Domestic manufacture of guided weapons, explosive ordnance and munitions.
  • Development and integration of autonomous systems.
  • Integration and enhancement of battlespace awareness and management systems.
  • Test and evaluation, certification, and systems assurance.

“Though the release of the new sovereign defence industrial priorities represents the opportunity for a renewed focus on innovation in the industry, ensuring that our defence businesses are investing in those capabilities and emerging technologies that matter most for our soldiers, sailors, and aviators,” said Garman.

Professor Monro will also join a host of industry and uniformed experts as they deep-dive into and unpack each of the SDIPs and their implications for your business.
