SIAA to collaborate with New Zealand equivalent

The Space Industry Association of Australia (SIAA) has agreed to collaborate more closely with its equivalent in New Zealand.

The local industry body hopes the MOU signed with Aerospace New Zealand will unlock commercial opportunities for businesses across both nations and drive “cutting-edge advancements”.

Lisa Vitaris, SIAA’s interim CEO, said, “This MOU solidifies our shared vision of propelling the aerospace and space industries in Australia and New Zealand to new heights.

“Through this partnership, we’re setting the stage for exciting joint ventures that will drive industry expansion and foster international collaboration.”

The SIAA said the agreement would lead to coordinated messaging to governments as well as help elevate the two organisations’ annual events.

Mark Rocket, president of Aerospace New Zealand, said, “Our alliance with SIAA marks a pivotal step toward building a more robust and interconnected aerospace ecosystem in the southern hemisphere.

“Together, we have the power to push the boundaries of innovation and deliver real benefits to our nations and beyond.”

The news significantly comes after Australia’s SmartSat CRC research collaboration agreed a similar deal to work with the New Zealand Space Agency in January.

PROMOTED CONTENT

Funded by the federal government, SmartSat CRC is a collaboration between universities and research organisations that partner with industry.

It will now expand its scope to work with Kiwi organisations on projects including Earth observation, situational awareness, and optical communications to support space exploration.

The deal came alongside a commitment from the New Zealand government to support projects with NZ$6 million.

Later, four projects were announced as winners, including a plan to verify a satellite that measures methane from space and an initiative to enhance the real-time surveillance of greenhouse gases.
