Moonshot founder and chief executive Troy McCann said you would have to have been living under a rock for the past 50 years not to be aware of Houston's stellar aerospace ecosystem.
Among much else, it is NASA's hub for human spaceflight.
McCann, an engineering graduate from the University of Melbourne and participant in the University of Melbourne Space Program, who founded Moonshot in 2016, said space was no longer about rockets, satellites and just exploring places above the Earth’s sky.

“We’re on the verge of a Cambrian explosion of new opportunity,” he wrote on the Moonshot blog.
“Moonshot provides a framework to grow and capture new wealth through the international space economy, elevating individuals and their ideas into successful teams and scalable businesses to create the industries of the future and solve humanity’s greatest challenges.
“The opportunities are all encompassing, such as developing new medicines from chemical reactions requiring minimal gravity, to transitioning environmentally damaging industrial processes away from our biosphere, allowing life to thrive while creating more pure materials and better performing products.”
McCann said Moonshot was in the process of starting chapters across the globe.

“We believe that the next Nikola Tesla or Marie Curie is out there somewhere, but they don't have access to the resources they need to change the world for the better,” he said.
"Today, the average person has the ability to start a commercial space program for less than the cost of a fast-food franchise."
Moonshot’s new chapter in Houston starts this northern autumn, with a focus on building an active community of space entrepreneurs, industry leaders, researchers and students.
This is Moonshot's first venture in the US and will be directed by Houston lawyer Nathan Johnson a specialist in space law and business development.
"We will plug Moonshot’s programming and partners into our local community; grow space businesses in and around our NASA facilities, universities, and business centers; and benefit from a mutual exchange of ideas with other leading industries in the city like medicine, energy, and big data," he said.
